Wow, so that was 2017. Every year brings it’s new challenges and opportunities to do bigger and better – and the year just gone has certainly been Knomo’s greatest yet.
We hope you enjoy reading about some of our most exciting projects and step-changes below. Thank you to everyone who has joined us throughout the crazy, brilliant year of 2017 – here’s to what lies ahead, we can’t wait to share it with you.
Knomo Launches Retail
If you spend much time in London, we hope you’ve had the chance to visit one of our stores! While we started the year with a (very) tired pop-up space, we finish the year with a flagship store in Seven Dials, another retail space on Great Portland Street and a shop-in-shop within Selfridges, Oxford Street.
Find Knomo stores here, and come and visit us in the New Year.
In April 2017 we launched our first campaign on Kickstarter. The aim: to create the ultimate 24/7 backpack using the best materials and newest technology possible. We were humbled to reach our target funding in just 44 hours, and went on to reach 198% of our total goal.
With what seemed like a never-ending series of complications due to the British waxed-canvas, electrical components being imported and coordinating a simultaneous worldwide send out to 500 backers, the feedback we've received about the #LiveFree Backpack has been phenomenal.
We’ll be releasing the #LiveFree Backpack to Knomo customers at the beginning of January 2018. Keep your eyes peeled.
Oslo Freedom Forum
We joined philanthropists, activists and businesses for the 9th annual Human Rights Foundation gathering in Oslo, Norway. It was incredibly special to have the opportunity to meet with change-makers from all around the world.
We don’t design products for stationary people. So, when we were invited to create water-resistant backpacks for the Oslo Freedom Forum guests, we knew that the guests of the Freedom Forum - the activists, philanthropists, entrepreneurs and journalists - would be able to put the Harpsden Backpacks to rigorous use.
It was a privilege to join the conference, and to pass on awareness of the stories that were shared - read about our experience here.
Victoria and Albert Museum Collaboration
At the end of the Summer we launched our first ever print collection using an award-winning Art Deco inspired pattern from the Victoria and Albert Museum’s archive.
The print was reworked into a larger, more modern design in two colourways – Monochrome and Night Forest. The print was applied to a five style range featuring a backpack, tote-backpack, briefcase, travel pouches and foldaway shopper – with the pattern cutting making every bag unique. See the collection here.

Microsoft Surface x Knomo
Together with Microsoft Surface we celebrated four ‘People of Action’. From digital art to connecting people, questioning the status quo to branding, our four champions have carved a specific role for themselves doing what they love.
Our design team each started using Surface designers to push creativity, mobility and innovation to the limit – check out their experiences here.
We teamed up with Shortlist magazine, too, to reach people living and working around the world and have everyone share their favourite places to work with #ThisIsMyOffice. We received photos from mountain tops to boats, city offices to home office and tropical co-working spaces. It turns out we really can work from anywhere.
The New Knomad Organiser
“This story has been over 3 years in the making, the Knomad became our hero product so it was important for this re-design to be a true upgrade of the original.”
Howard Harrison, Knomo CEO and co-founder.
We launched the original organiser in 2014, and using years of feedback from our users we recently launched the upgraded and updated Knomad. With two sizes and two materials in multiple colours to choose from, the Knomad has never looked so good or been so functional. Find out 8 of the biggest changes we madein this blog post.
Great British Brands 2018
In December, we were honoured to be included in the definitive list of 150 Great British Brands. Compiled by the Country & Town House group, Knomo sits within the Brands to Watch 2018 section. It’s fantastic to sit alongside some of the biggest brands in the UK, check out the feature in full here.
A huge thank you to everyone who has made the year successful, enjoyable and different. See you in the new year.
